After you have explored the National Zoo website, you may use other invertebrates information websites as well.

1. What do all invertebrates have in common?
2. Remember the classification system (Kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, species). What kingdom are all invertebrates in?
3. Name and describe the 6 different phyla of invertebrates then give four characteristics of each of those phyla. (Yes, I realize that is 24 different characteristics!)
4. Under the four characteristics of each phylum, please include the name and a picture of one representative species from that invertebrate phylum.
5. Read more about one of the 6 species (that you just collected the name and a picture from) and read more detail about it. Write a paragraph of 5-7 sentences describing that particular organism. In it highlight something you find particularly interesting about this animal.

Note: Students taking Biology at the General level only need to choose 4 of the 6 phyla to write bullet points about. You still need to write the paragraph on a specific invertebrate animal of your choosing.
